Adding of "Leagues" to the app ruined my feeling that the app is up to latest development in education tech. As "Leagues" is, in fact, competition for the best grade in class, developers thus disregarded all research-based evidence about grades beeing worst possible motivator for fruitful, deep and long-lasting learning. Overall excellent app built in line with most of the latest developments in learning techniques.

download Application is buggy and slow. First of all, the lessons take a lot of time to load. Also, while the lesson is in progress you press the Continue button twice, it loses track of the progress. The audio lessons are good but once played, the track doesn't end for another 10 seconds after the audio has stopped. Lesson wise its a really good app, but not very good in user experience

I'm really enjoying this app. I find there is a comfortable mix of vocabulary and grammar and things are explained well. I think the subscription is well worth the content. The peer feedback for writing tasks is a great feature, too. -1 star for the latest update: I'm really not a fan of Stars replacing Minutes. Not all "activities" are created equal. If it takes me 10 minutes to work through one grammar lesson that's worth more to me than 2 minutes of vocabulary review: but both worth 5 stars?

  4. Craig Kirk-avatar

I love this app. I took advantage of the discount and paid for the year of premium plus. Jumps right into far more useful, everyday phrases than other apps I've tried. Only suggestion is I'd like a slightly more basic review, especially in the early going. It asks me to spell complicated words/phrases from the day before and I usually have to back out & retake that lesson. Being able to ask others for help & also lend help to others is a pretty cool feature. Keep up the good work.

This app has changed my life 🤯 well, I could sound cliché but if you have discipline, this app it's for you. It teaches you about the current language that you can use daily in a lot of contexts, with a lots phrases verbs. I love this app because I've noticed I didn't have the level I thought, now I know, I have to keep learning.

  6. Laura Holly-avatar

    Laura Holly

The examples are a bit off for non English speakers. I find so many strange questions when I help check their work. Also the pictures are sometimes vague and if you don't remember what they are linked to you'll have to guess. Like two men are at a desk talking and it asks if they are saying more or less, hello, or whatever. It's very vague like that.

  7. Steve Ferns-avatar

Excellent app in all respects. I started using it for Spanish at ntermediate level and German at very much beginner level. Would definitely recommend the pro version as the features on that are well worth the money. it's well thought through, it has reading listening and writing exercises and a vocabulary list that uses spaced repetition to help you imbed the words in your head.

  8. Antonia-avatar

I have been using this app for few days, and paid for the subscription, however, now I have doubts that it was right decision. I had trouble logging in just today, my Google account was not picked up by the application, and there was an error message that said to me, that I've entered incorrect password, even though I didn't even had an opportunity to select correct account. Also I had trouble with sending correction to the message, no internet it said, but it was a lie. Please hire good QA.

Only into second week using full version. I am able to carry progress across from my iPhone to my galaxy tablet without issue. Only works in portrait mode. Is better structured, used duolingo for month prior. That was more game style , this app is more structured. In duo for example it teaches 'wie gehts' (how are you), Busuu however also explains that you wouldn't use this with strangers, elders, bosses etc. Also hallo is informal guten tag is forma greetingl. Duo did not explain this.

  10. Jacob F-avatar

    Jacob F

Wonderful. Works perfectly. It doesnt give you too much too remember at one time, has a nice aesthetic and has many good featutes. Works much better than duolingo, so if using duolingo you should 100 percent switch over as you can take a test to determine where you are. Only problem is that with the free version it pushes premiun alot, which can get annoying, but it doesnt matter too much. Overall, i love this app!

  11. Spiicy Ramen-avatar

    Spiicy Ramen

It's easy to use but, if you don't have premium like me it annoying after you do review to have somthing saying to buy it all the time. It's already enough to have to keep on pressing it since you can't do the whole review. I also like how you can help other people with learning your language!

  12. Krzysztof Mak-avatar

    Krzysztof Mak

I really don't like this concept of displaying misspelled words and sentences. That's causing no more than confusion about proper spelling. It might be better use of time to repeat proper spelling several times instead of figure out which of three very similar is the proper one. Apart from that issue, the app seems to be useful and has a potential.

  13. Paul Downey-avatar

    Paul Downey

Update: Taking off a star as the latest update added stupid Duolingo style xp and leaderboards. There was nothing wrong with the old method of tracking progress by time spent and leaderboards place more emphasis on competition rather than cooperation with other learners. Great app. Actuall encourages you to learn how the language works rather than just rote learning vocabulary. Getting corrections from native speakers is also really helpful.

  14. sofia tosounidi-avatar

i've just started using this app for learning japanese, but i'm writing a feedback already because there's two little things which bother me a lot. i can't copy the japanese writing + there aren't any formal words/setences. they're mostly casual or informal. also, if i could copy the words, it'd be a lot of help. thank you.

  15. Eamon J Jawatin-avatar

    Eamon J Jawatin

I like the lesson structure, it's really good. I would give 5 stars, but I'll give 4 for now because of 1 thing. - The leaderboard points : You won't get any if you doing your lesson through a desktop website. Your progress will be synced, but your points wont. I spent hours on desktop version because i prefer learning through a laptop rather than using my phone, and when I check back on the App, i didnt have any progress at all as no points were recorded.

  16. Tea Radio-avatar

    Tea Radio

I really like this app for learning language. The exercises are varied and really test your knowledge in many categories. It has many tips and tricks that I wish I had learned earlier in other modes of learning. I love that you can have your assignments marked by native speakers. It will likely become my main app for learning language, with others being supplemental to it. The thing I find missing is skipping ahead in places by completing a competency test in certain areas (like alphabet).

  17. Nicholas Montaño-avatar

    Nicholas Montaño

Some issues with audio/video playback sometimes, but otherwise a wonderful app and program! Edit: I greatly dislike the new star system. The time counting felt more serious and balanced. Made using the app easier to schedule as well. The new star counter appears at the end of EVERY sub-lesson instead of just at the end of a section like it used to, which feels very intrusive and time-wasting. It's also a longer animation than the time counter...

  18. Cammille Charen-avatar

    Cammille Charen

Its alright, but essentially you can't progress on the app unless you buy the yr long plan. Free version (from what I've seen so far) offers really nothing but the vocab i grew while on my free trial. But, you get absolutely no access to the lessons, even basic ones such as getting around or simple conversations unless you pay.

  19. thatguyfromasia-avatar

The app is great overall! I learned Japanese on this app for almost 1 month and I have learned a lot! My only complaint is that as soon as you go further into the lessons the other important topics are locked and have to be paid to remove. So yeah great app overall for learning a new language but, I still suggest buying and learning on a book.

  20. Rico The Birb-avatar

    Rico The Birb

Idk how to rate this... I was having a good experience, until this app randomly signed me out, and since, I've been trying to get back in, but to no avail. I can't sign in, which is especially frustrating because I paid the Premium. I'm not going to say this app is a scam or anything. I'm pretty sure I was just logged out randomly because I got timed out of the servers or something... :/ It'd be great if I could have some assistance getting back in...

  21. vinay chanakya-avatar

Fix the bugs please 1. All my vocabulary became "weak words" overnight 2. conversations get stopped after 1st statement and I have click on play button again. Thereafter it continues till end. If I minimize and reopen the app, the last statement gets read again, as many times as I do it. 3. Rework your algorithm to consider "strong" and "weak" words. After repeating it a hundred times, a typo on next attempt pushes it from strong to medium.

  22. Chikipichi-avatar

The amount of particles (it's done less now most particles are covered) and kanji that you're expected to randomly know in the beginner section of the Japanese course is absurd. The course was very good in the beginning at telling you all you will need for the next lesson but towards the last 50 lessons of beginner course, it fails miserably at this. UPDATE: Ay get rid of the activity star system and bring back time. This isn't elementary school,at least after you complete the elementary course

  23. Chad Akin-avatar

    Chad Akin

I overall like the feel and features of this app better then the rest. I don't however like the subscription fee to unlock all the features. I don't hold it against them I personally would just like access to progress quizzes. I think the price seems fair but adding another subscription fee to my life isn't for me.

  24. Majd Samer-avatar

    Majd Samer

I bought the premium plus plan for 1 year. I was satisfied with it at first, but now I have found a problem. In the review tab, vocabulary review is good, but the grammar review is very obsolete. The grammar review only shows me the first 4 topics I studied and no matter how deep in the course I progress it doesn't update. This is very disappointing as grammar is the harder aspect of learning the language and reviewing the lesson is crucial. I would appreciate if a busuu team member contacts me.

It took me a while - am not the brightest person in town - to figure out that in order to answer the "multiple choice" one has to drag the English sentences to the Russian equivalents and cover the latter with the English. Perhaps I would be an idea to indicate it to newcomers?

  26. William Hogge-avatar

    William Hogge

I'm not a complete beginner at Chinese so, so far I know the material. I can say that the approach to teaching is as good or better than other apps I've tried. I'd like to see more repetition, especially spaced repetition. Hopefully it will come when I start missing more answers, but I think there should be more even for correct answers.

  27. Thomas Starks-avatar

    Thomas Starks

I originally had Duolingo, but they started the language course for Japanese with Hiragana (the symbols). How could I learn how to pronounce words when I didn't know the sounds the Hiragana made?!?! Well, here on Busuu, they started with Romaji (the phonetic sounds) and eventually worked in the Hiragana and its made learning so much funner and easier. I have actually been doing this daily because it's become so enjoyable for me. Check it out yourself why Busuu is superior! Sayounara! さようなら!

  28. XORE-avatar

Its a wonderful app to learn a language on, the difference between this and duolingo is it explains what youre looking at much better, its a very good place to begin! Its free to use and even tells you when you are going to complete your goal by, truly a master piece! You should get it!

  29. Michael Bellis-avatar

    Michael Bellis

DE version. One of the unique features I've not seen on other apps is a placement test. This gives you a solid idea of your current level of understanding allowing you to dive in at a point in the learning that is meaningful, rather than rehash all the basics. One negative though, is that the study plan gives me an error saying I'm offline. I'm still using the trial. I also think it's overpriced. In the UK you can get it reduced for approx. £35 a year, but in Germany it's 79.99€, why? 😢

  30. Ryan Drake-avatar

    Ryan Drake

#1 Language Learning App/Program of All Time! The free version is packed with valuable resources and has made a noticeable difference in my ability to effectively communicate in Español. My favorite of which is the community of native speakers that provide feedback to your written and verbal quiz answers following each section. This has been so helpful for me in learning to actually communicate in Spanish, rather than learning vocabulary and key phrases.

  31. Contreramanjaro Sam-avatar

    Contreramanjaro Sam

If you're a new Japanese learner, do yourself a favor and delete the sentences with odd spacing from your weak word reviews. There are several phrases with half-width spacing and ellipsis added in. While nice in the lessons, the app does not accept non-spaced versions of a translation. For example, sometimes it's あなたはなん… and others you are expected to write あなた は なん… which is not only awkward to write on a mobile keyboard, but is quickly phased out as correct in the lessons.

  32. Ann Utkina-avatar

I have been using this app for half a year and got paid subscription. But now I could not log in! The app just log out me from my account. The log in with phone number doesn't work, with email does not work, with Google or FB. I updated app to the latest version but problem exists 🤷‍♂️

  33. Dustin Michael Minter-avatar

    Dustin Michael Minter

I've been using Busuu for a couple days now and I have become addicted to learning a new language. (In my case, Japanese.) I highly recommend this app over others. It has pictures to accommodate what you are learning and slowly adds in new ways to communicate.

  34. N Kauthar-avatar

    N Kauthar

Great app for learning Arabic (haven't tried other languages), especially because of clear audio files for vocabulary and dialogue. Though there are some mistakes in the text. I highly appreciate the feature of receiving corrections and helping others at the same time.

  35. Ktk Bbb-avatar

    Ktk Bbb

This learning format is not suitable for learning Japanese. Learning new vocabulary without a detailed explanation on kanji is useless. This app tests my cognitive skills more than my actual Japanese vocabulary knowledge. Not recommended. The only good point is the example sentence and the fact that there are some advanced lessons as well, unlike duolingo.

  36. Armine Makhsudyan-avatar

    Armine Makhsudyan

Great app! I have been looking for a good language app for a long time and this is the first app that meets my needs. It is wonderful, well structured, organized and designed. You simply enjoy learning and do not want to stop. Thanks to creators!!!.

  37. Luis Felipe Ribeiro de Carvalho-avatar

    Luis Felipe Ribeiro de Carvalho

That's a very good app, I really like it. But there's something I don't like: sometimes I put an almost right answer, like missing one letter or something like that. And the app doesn't accept (neither partially) the answer...

  38. B B-avatar

    B B

So, mixed feelings about this app. But I'll start with the cons. I feel like lessons could most certainly be clearer and more organized. I feel like the lessons are all over the place and random. I learned more Russian from 2 weeks on Duolingo, than I did in 3 months with Busuu. However, what duolingo doesn't offer that busuu does is having the chance to get corrected by native speakers which I absolutely love. Besides that, I find Duolingo to be much better and won't renew my Busuu subscription

  39. Melissa Oliver-avatar

    Melissa Oliver

I LOVE this app! My favorite part is that other users that are native speakers of the language you're learning will correct your exercises. Only complaint is that you don't get much grammar with a free account. But I paid for mine and don't regret it.

  40. Alexander Kolesnikov-avatar

    Alexander Kolesnikov

I like their approach to teaching languages but the app is very flaky There are always a few annoying bugs in it, and their support, although responsive, doesn't seem to do anything about the reported issues.

  41. Eva Willis-avatar

    Eva Willis

I've tried a few apps and LOVE this! Especially the cooperative feature of helping others with your native language and them with the one you're learning is fantastic! As I enjoy the app so much I feel I learn more too. Extensive lessons and opportunities to review

    Sherin Fayyazi

A great way to learn with lots of opportunities to practice especially for those who lack a bit of confidence face to face. Excellent app. I am really enjoying learning and I don't think I have ever picked a language up so quickly.

  44. Deni Karayilan-avatar

    Deni Karayilan

I enjoy the app. I believe that it asks you to spell complicated words too early on and I have found that some of the exercise questions that I have corrected for people learning English, have incorrect spelling which is ridiculous as people are on the app to learn but I have emailed that. Otherwise I enjoy the app

  45. Oktay Ahmed-avatar

I am a paid German A1 user. I had 200+ strong words and no medium or weak words. Now suddenly all strong words (246) became weak words, with only 7 medium words. My progress is GONE. I read about this here before, but didn't believe that it can happen to me, too. I am totally disappointed, because I'll need a long time to "correct" weak words. The words that I perfectly know well, because I already have some basic German. Totally disappointed.

I'm so happy I discovered this amazing app! It's very fun & educational. I love how it has pictures to you remember the words. I'm currently learning Japanese and thanks to this app I'm to pick up on the language really fast!!!! Arigato gozaimasu!!!!!

Arabic course. Good intentions but a huge amount of mistakes, misspelling, wrong word order, missed voices, bad choice of pictures to the words and phrases that it sometimes misleads me. In addition to it, I had chosen the most simple Arabic course in order to learn how to build common questions and answers but instead I had to learn them by heart. There are no good study plan in Arabic course here. I'm really sorry to write such things down here but I do it to get you to notice it.

I really like this app. I have done Duolingo for about 2 years and when I started Busuu it really helped. I've only been at it about 3 weeks but it definitely is worth it. It isnt an easy course but it makes you think for yourself and not parrot your words. The hardest part to me is trying to remember (or learn) all the english terms I had in school. I love being able to get first hand corrections from people around the world.

  69. Anthony Gibson II-avatar

Very interactive and actually gives you something that will be practical rather than just individual words. It incorporates how those words will be used in a sentence as well as sentence structure. It's a must have app for anyone looking to learn a secondary language.

Okay so first of all this app is quite great but some other people who are 11 - 15 want to learn some languages and I am one of them and the problem is that you need to pay to learn more like there are people that are around 11 and 15 like shouldn't this app be free? I mean I am just asking but yeah thank god my brother showed me another app where I can learn languages but the app looks fun and Interesting so yeah that is all I have to say about this app.

Easy to use, lessons give you a chance to practice without being repetitive, and the opportunity for input from native speakers is fantastic. The community is really active and responsive, so you get feedback fast. Everything's structured but still flexible. My only gripe is that the app tends to be really slow when switching between lessons, but I don't really care. Oh and I don't understand why it says 'at the weekend' everywhere instead of 'on the weekend'.

I began learning japanese on your app and it started out awesome! I made a lot of progress, learned alphabets, and it was very enjoyable! Sadly after I have reached A1 level, the lessons got less interactive. There are words and phrases that have not been taught, but are used in a couple of lessons. I understand that this is just help and you have to practice on the side as well, but as you progress the "care" for the user drops a bit. Nevertheless I'll keep learning with you. Thank you!

This is a really good app and when I'm stuck on a question, or finish my time, i help others learn my language! It is a little bit harder since you need premium to do lots of stuff. Great app! I also like how when you share with friends, you and the friend both get a 30 day free trial and you can get up to a year of free trial just by sharing to your friends! 5 star, for sure.

Great app. I am learning Japanese and they go at a good pace and do many practices you make sure you know. They also teach you to read and write the language too. Which helps cement to memory. A problem I have is the text box formatting is non existence. You can't make new lines when giving feedback to others. The boxes don't expand either so you can't see what you're typing if you have more than so many letters. It's incredibly frustrating.

Honestly, very engaging and I feel like I can learn at my own pace, whether fast or slow. And then it makes it easy to refresh something you've already been over as much as you'd like. I use this app in addition to spanish kids shows and practicing my Spanish on relatives. Unlike some other apps, it isn't just word games. They really take it seriously and you really learn the proper grammar. And the price wasnt too bad compared to other apps and def worth it so far.

I tried so many different language apps to learn Italian, and this is the best one! Keeps you engaged with a customized daily goal. The forecast to achieve desired fluency level is a super useful feature. I love how it takes you through the foundation, rather than throw you in the deep end like many other apps. It really makes learning fun and easy, and I don't find myself feeling discorged if I make mistakes.

Really great app. Likely the best I've used for mobile aside maybe from Anki. It's also very reasonably priced with large sales frequently, and they even gave me a discount code after the original offer had expired when I asked for it. Five star app if you're willing to subscribe but as a free app, it's still useful but very annoying to have to trudge through the app urging you to subscribe every few minutes and the large number of features behind the pay wall.

Good app especially for beginners. However, there are many bugs. The study plan timer is not reliable. Some questions are too easy. Sometimes translations are not accurate or not available for some examples. The review section is not available for all grammar rules and it makes difficult to remember things you learn. I'm not sure I'm going to renew the premium.

The app is good however there's an issue that needs to get fix because my Busuu account is linked to my Facebook one and whenever I sign in with Facebook the website says that "This user doesnt exist" and thats a problem because Im paying for the Busuu "Premium Plus" subscription and if there's no fix, I'll have to cancel my subscription because I also wanna use it on my desktop but it doesnt let me.

The app itself is decent and useful... However it does not capture all grammar lessons and language concepts that have been completed. And the animations are getting pretty irritating over the time, but my brain adopted to ignore them. And if just all that blinking was taken out and actual effort put on making this app more focused on being more accessible from knowledge browsing point of view and recurring repetitions - the app would definitely deserve the money.

Edited for updated review. The more I use it, the more I start to understand why this app is not that famous. 1. Inadequate explanation regarding the sentences such as passe sentences in French. This app will tell you once what it is and afterwards, you are on your own. Good luck. 2. Words will be thrown at you from out of nowhere in the exercise and you are expected to know them. Many other things are wrong. Go for Duolingo. At least that is free for the same quality that this app provides.

The app used to be great, but the experience has steadily soured. Today it seems to have wiped out my learning history, and even has the language I've been learning mixed up. The UI has become increasingly unresponsive, and the time tracker is entirely unreliable. It keeps trying to sell me a subscription I've purchased already as well. Such a shame, because it really was a great app.

Just trying it out, but... no present desire to try 7 days for free. Where is the button that allows me to decline and move on with the free basic stuff ? Continue just sends me to the "offer" and the single acceptance button ! Also interface confusing, needs work. Plus just been asked to write various phrases. Unsure if one is expected to have a Chinese keyboard or use that unbelievably bad pinyin which is all pronounced incorrectly when compared to English, but for sure neither is happening.

The app itself is amazing. Its great to learn a new language, easy to use and you can get native speakers to mark your work. The big problem is that the notifications don't work and are rubbish. I have a study plan and it is supposed to notify me everyday, it doesn't. Very occasionally it will work but more often than not, I forgot to do my studying because I dont get the reminder. We all live busy lives and these notifications help us to remember to do things so it is a pity it doesn't work.

If you are truly committed to learning French then using Busuu is a great supplement to your learning arsenal. To be fully rounded while learning is the most important, and I would say that Busuu has the most content to help you learn a language. Most other apps are focused on just one or two areas, but Busuu focuses on grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and a little speaking. I am still using other resources, but using this app is definitely not a waste of time and brain energy.

I know advertisements are normal on any free app, but this CONSTANT insisting slowly got on my nerves (which didn't help my overall learn process). And not just advertising, you needed premium to access features that seemed quite necessary to me, not letting you complete almost any task, nor practice. Adding to that, I couldn't access to ANY grammar lesson because 'i need premium'. I hope they change this, because I, at least, would rather use other apps, even if less good.

Chinese: I wouldn't use it as my only sources of learning - the quality of translations is often bad, sometimes the is incorrect or missing pin yin, the pronunciations of the sound clips is poor, the ability to play the sound clips is bad (some are truncated, some play for a long time with no sounds). The lessons are ok. The best part about the app and the redeeming feature is the ability to ask other users (native speakers) to review your exercises - speaking and writing - premium feature

  101. Huuugo G-avatar

Pros: great pronunciation recordings, and nice idea with the social corrections. Cons: there is no option to choose whether you want to learn how to talk, understand or write. You have to do it all. In mandarin this is especially troublesome, because there are two written systems: the traditional characters and pinyin. The app forces you to learn everything at once. Aside from that, there are some errors in the pinyin. Also frustrating: some missing translations and a very steep learning curve.

This app is amazing! I'm been trying to learn a language for a while and most apps bored me. However Busuu is simple and fun without excessive pressure to master words. The best part is definitely the social menu: it's so easy to ask others for help! My only complaint is the lack of forgiveness when it comes to typos. It let's you away with wrong accents but not wrong letters. I get this is to stop people spelling it wrong and then learning it wrong but it sometimes feels a bit rigid.

Very good app (when using premium). Knocked it down further by 2 stars because of two issues: 1. Buttons don't respond, this has been reported a lot but hasn't been fixed. Selecting the continue button on a module does nothing, you either have to randomly whack everywhere on the screen or restart the app. 2. The playback icon next to answers (when submitted) only plays back the original question - not the answer its against. The indication is that it'll play the answer audibly.

I find the Russian course to be indescribably more beneficial in terms of efficiency and effectiveness than its Duolingo counterpart. There are some issues with the Web version of Busuu, however, given the low price of premium + (I got it for 50% off, the value is incredibly high) With any language course/learning app, there are always issues, however, I feel as if they have mitigated said issues. Very balanced in terms of speaking, writing, reading, and listening. (Repeat what they give you!)

I'm at the beginning of Japanese course but I can say that it's an better app than Duolingo, at least for this language. It's available for French to Japanese. I can answer with kana and Kanji. I can review what i learned and accentuate my learning on specific part or words from the course thanks to the review tab. There are also a lot of tips and knowledge to understand more deeply the Japanese language. I doubt that an app can make you bilingual but this app is an excellent springboard.

It's a very good app. In my opinion. I learned how to introduce myself in Japanese and how to put sentence togeather. This is a very good app. It's better then Duolingo. Great! It's a shock to the system to have an app that doesn't allow any typos but this does make you focus on your learning, and the app takes you through the grammar of a language more than other apps I've tried. The chance to have exercises marked by native speakers of the language is great! It would be better if we could flag parts of the app that have errors (like Duolingo), and also have more translations/ability to get explanations from others when you get something wrong (like Duolingo!)

Very good. However, when people asked for corrections sometimes, it's unclear what they're trying to say so I don't correct it. I could correct it, but it may not be what they actually wanted to say. I think it will be good to see a preview or a brief summary of the corresponding lesson, so we can understand what they're trying to say.

Pretty useless without paying. The UI is poor - when you start using the app it's confusing whether you drag and drop tiles or tap the tile then the place it's meant to go . Pointless app if you're looking for a free language learning app. Duolingo is better (which is really saying something!)

Loving the lesson plans. Specially, the ability to slow down words so you can better hear their pronunciations. I also like the feature to take a test and earn a certificate from McGraw Hill Education. However, I recently found out that there are scammers using their networking ability to promote their sites. Excellent language learning app with spaced repetition to enforce vocabulary and grammer. Premium is definitely worth the price, imo. Sometimes, app does not respond to my clicks on the button "start" ,and when it responds it loads the lesson slowly. This app really does help you get started! It does it's best to help you memorize and the pacing is also well thought out. However the course feels like it skips over material. Well structured courses. I use it daily to learn Chinese. I think app strikes good balance between paid and free version. I use premium and very happy with feedback I get from native speakers. Quite low rating though, because it lacks crucial feature: 1) courses do not force you to repeat words regularly. I remember ~30%, however app doesn't check that 2) AAR of 1, I have to use review feature at my discretion, but annoyingly cannot mark words as remembered, forcing to overrepeat basics

Example 1: Expecting a beginner in lesson 5 to be able to hear (and say!) the difference between the OU in Tout va bien and the U in Tu vas bien is utterly preposterous! Example 2: When you ask me to translate "Good" into French, the answer is "Bon" not "Ca va", nor "Bien". Example 3. Too many times the "Continue" button doesn't appear. Example 4: La ??? est grande. Answer: roue or rue. Wheels can be big. So can roads. So which is the correct answer ? One thing's for sure: neither roue nor rue is wrong !! Example 5: Too many written grammar tests right from the start. Have we learned nothing from the likes of Stephen Krashen !? This is not how to teach a language!

I like the app and I have picked up a few things with the limited exercises but without paying some parts aren't explained and are difficult to understand. I would be happy to pay a 1 time lump sum for the full access forever but the monthly payments I can't afford in the long run and I wouldn't get chance to use it all the time. If my college courses are half user friendly as Busuu, I will not suffer anymore. The interface is just excellent. The annual premium is fair price, and it gives you bunch of languages. It actually teaches you grammars. The only flaw I could find is the Japanese course. The speakers in audio are talking in a weird tone like they're in an anime. It's not how normal people do in life. Also, Japanese almost never use あなた, I can't believe a common mistake is in Busuu.

Good app for learning Can be a bit predictable though and so not always sure how much learnt but as you work through each level you do pick up more than you realise. I am learning Arabic. Does not teach you how to read or write Arabic. So you will need prior knowledge of this. Exercises to help you speak and write which are then sent out to native speakers to assess. This is a really good feature and it is what helped me pick this app over other language learning apps.

I'd give 0 stars if possible. Busuu is sneaky in their trial subscription, they force you into one and don't tell you how to unsubscribe. Amazing app overall, but you are making it extremely difficult for anyone learning Arabic to correctly enter their answers, as some answers have diacritical marks in them and some don't. Occasionally the audio does not match the text, sometimes they only accept the answer in one form, such as kanji, but not hiragana (or hiragana, but not kanji), and one particularly irritating vocab word, ぎもんにおもう, does not even accept what it shows as the correct answer.

For now, a 5 yet for German (European languages are good here), a 2 for Japanese. In the Japanese course, they will present words in hiragana and kanji, and then they don't teach you neither kanji, nor radicals; moreover, sentences, dialogues are given in hiragana only, and then it is a test with options — actually with one option, like: 肉 meat eggs bread, and then バナナeggs banana bread. It seems unfinished. I know nothing about Arabic (Hebrew is absent), but European courses are well-designed.
