Very slow and boring if you even have the slightest knowledge of the language. Takes forever to load the simplest courses and sometimes doesn't even load when when I have full service. Also, many of the pronunciation examples cut off two words into the sentences so are pointless and don't help either. The listening mechanisms are also terrible unless you're in a sound-proof booth. Pointless to pay for the subscription, thankfully I only bought one month so I didn't waste 80 dollars.

I changed from Duolingo to Babbel and I am excited. This app is awesome compared to other language learning apps. You can choose, which type of learner you are and the lectures are clear and understandable. I have not yet tested the live classes. The level always matches my skills with a bit of challenge and the voice of the dialogues is clear pronounced, so you hear the difference. Also, the voice recognition works well and you collect a vocabulary to repeat them frequently. Perfect ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Frustrating interface. I keep accidentally hitting "Show me the answer" when I am trying to make it advance because the time between questions is long. Aldo, I have twice bumped the back button on my phone while close to the end of a lesson and had to start over at the beginning of final section.

Wish I could give you negative stars. Said it was 7 a month for 6 months and then charged me $89. Was expecting 7 to come out of my account not a years worth, especially since I only asked for 6 months. Already did, but you charged me for a year and only subscribed for 6 months, I would think I would get at least the over charge back

It's losing me fast! The progression is not logical, and seems too fast for a beginner course. I'm not sure if paying for this has been a good decision... 'Writing a conversation' is simply not clear as to what they are looking for as the correct answer... I'm becoming disappointed.

Not for me. Too low learning efficiency. Clicking and operating takes more time than learning. A business oriented program to keep the student as long as possible, although it may work for the lazy and the slow in the long run. Several other free programs in conjunction with podcasts will give faster and better results at least in English where there is a lot of learning material on the internet.

  7. Kyle Rogers-avatar

Babbel uses an accessible approach to language learning, but goes beyond other apps by incorporating a good grounding in areas like grammar, which helps ensure you understand the concepts rather than just learning them by rote. I also appreciate the inclusion of both literal and contextual translations for common phrases.

The web interface is a lot friendlier especially for the vocal exercises. I am regularly frustrated with the mobile for cutting me off early, or one particularly painful time where it had me just say English names but told me I didn't pronounce "Luke" correctly. It would be really helpful if you could narrow down the region. The Latin American Spanish assumes Mexico and gives you vocabulary appropriate for that region. I'm traveling to Costa Rica and would like to clarify that.

  9. Clifford Laysell-avatar

Don't like the lay out of this, it's more complicated than it has to be (why are the questions below the answers?). When you get a question wrong it tells you the correct answer but doesn't explain why that is the correct answer. The voice recognition is nothing shy of unusable for a fair amount of words unless you talk loudly right into the microphone. And took money for a whole year, I thought I was paying monthly.

After a year and a half I have found free apps that I find more effective. The listening software for reciting words is inconsistent. I suggest trying other apps first, the key is to start the habit, the tools only help if you're committed. Not really worth the price in my opinion
