Disaster can strike at any time. Luckily, there is Alertswiss, a mobile app developed by the Federal Office for Civil Protection to help you plan for and stay safe in an emergency. With Alertswiss, you receive alerts, warnings and information in real time. So that you always know exactly and immediately what action you need to take, the Alertswiss app sends you push notifications on the incident, including valuable tips and instructions on how best to protect yourself and your family.

The app also lets you customise the type of information you receive: for example, specifying the cantons that you want to receive notifications for, e.g. cantons where your relatives or friends live. All of these reports will be displayed directly on your smartphone’s homescreen. As well as receiving push notifications for your preferred cantons, you can enable push notifications for your current location. However, you first have to authorise the Alertswiss app to determine your location. Once you have activated the location services, all reports and information for both your current location and your preferred cantons will be displayed directly on your smartphone’s homescreen.

Maps show simply and clearly which areas are currently affected by the ongoing incident. On the overview screen, you can see which incidents are still ongoing and which ones have since been given the all-clear.

Under Reports you will find an overview of the latest official incident information released in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. These reports – alerts, warnings and information – are divided into three levels of severity, with alerts being the highest and information the lowest.
• An alert is when the authorities notify the public that they are at immediate risk and order them to follow official instructions on the behaviour they need to adopt.
• A warning refers to the reporting of either a potential risk to the public or an incident for which the authorities issue the public with recommendations rather than orders on the behaviour they should subsequently adopt.
• The default level of severity for all other reports is Information.

The Alertswiss blog features all the latest civil protection-related news, including information on recent deployments, drills and personnel, as well as up-to-the-minute policy and planning developments.

In an emergency, you may find yourself confronted with questions you have never asked yourself before: How do I contact my friends and relatives? Where should I go? What do I need to take with me? An emergency plan will help you take swift and appropriate action should a hazardous situation arise.

So, what are you waiting for? Download the Alertswiss app now and be prepared should disaster strike. Stay safe!

Your smartphone must have a stable data connection (WLAN or mobile network) to receive the latest push notifications and incident reports. If you are offline, you will only be able to view information that was updated the last time you were online. Once the connection is re-established, the system will update automatically and send you all of the latest push notifications and reports.

requires following permissions on your android device.

precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.

control vibration
Allows the app to control the vibrator.

prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

receive data from Internet
Allows apps to accept cloud to device messages sent by the app's service. Using this service will incur data usage. Malicious apps could cause excess data usage.

  1. Oana D-avatar

Nice app but there should be no performance tests done on the productive system at 6 am although the phone is on silent.

  2. Rolf Schneider-avatar

Theoretically a nice app. But there is no need to turn on siren sounds at full volume. First a week before the siren test end then twice during the actual siren test. Had to turn off the phone at work.

  3. Nicolas Sibille-avatar

    Nicolas Sibille

This app is about important alerts, so the least you could try to do is to not use the production environnement to send us by mistake your "Test" alarms (at maximum volume even if your phone is on silent mode)...

  4. Eric Alan Baur-avatar

There is no option to mute the notifications and there are too many test alerts send ... Caused a lot of nervousness in the office withvery loud alarms going off for no apparent reason. Needed to uninstall the app

  5. Mohamed Basir-avatar

Good idea and initiative but the messages are not in English.

  6. Anna Goralska-avatar

Annual siren testing notification increased the phone's media playback volume to maximum WHILE I was listening to media. Auch!

  7. Christian LA-avatar

Receiving constantly annoying "test" push notifications with sound alarm but few days ago the hurricane Petra passed through switzeland and did not receive a SINGLE alert.

  8. The Mac-avatar

pretty useless if you don't actually speak the major language in the canton the alert is for. you set the app to english? here's a french alert. you set it to german? here's something happening in italian. 😒 in other words... you better speak all swiss languages or you might just die on your daily walk.

  9. Schlättu 99-avatar

Really? Test alarms with sounds and spaming them. Ypu just ruined the whole App. Congrats!

  10. A Google user-avatar

Very appealing and well designed app, and contains useful additional information as well

  11. Tom Due-avatar

Uses too much battery, even when no alerts are received. Uninstalled!

  12. Stefan Schurgast-avatar

    Stefan Schurgast

Test alarms are very frequent and annoying. Please stop that.

  13. Dani Iris Stadelmann-avatar

Can't activate push notifications on huawei mate 20 pro. Therfore useless.

  14. A Google user-avatar

Nice app, useful, but could we please have landscape mode?

  15. Barbara Vicentini-avatar

    Barbara Vicentini

It takes ages to update notifications. I am going to disinstall it.

  16. Michael-avatar

Great idea terribly implemented and outdated

  17. Nurpinar-avatar

You need a better reason to send an alert and wake everyone up at 6 am

  18. Pittaya Tungarat-avatar

    Pittaya Tungarat

    It's not work.

  19. Andreas Mengel-avatar

  30. Ret'Of-avatar

habe heute unzählige Probe- oder Fehlalarme erhalten. Sorry, wenn es so weitergeht, deinstalliere ich.

  31. A Google user-avatar

  34. A Google user-avatar

  35. Anna Kay-avatar

What is access to identity, contacts and media files used for?! In case of emergency, this app does not send alerts, does it?

  36. Luis Meier-avatar

Deinstalliert.

    I like it
